Friends my heart is HEAVY today. This is going to be a stream of consciousness, rambling post. Life can be so hard on people. Today I am sad for someone else, who I know is hurting so deeply.
And that brings me to something I’ve been mulling over- we have a duty in this life to learn to give a shit about the important things. Like… GIVE IT ALL. And we equally have the responsibility to learn when to let things go, what things can be dropped from our baggage.
A life is an important thing to lose. A dollar? Not so much. You won’t remember that the next day. A possession? Most times you can replace it. But a life… that is irreplaceable.
I don’t know how to explain how to do this. I think it can perhaps only come from life experience. Sometimes I recite the serenity prayer for perspective. I also remember a quote from Kurt Vonnegut. Take them in for a second.
God- Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
The courage to change the things I can,
And wisdom to know the difference.
“Be soft. Do not let the world make you hard. Do not let pain make you hate. Do not let the bitterness steal your sweetness. Take pride that even though the rest of the world may disagree, you still believe it to be a beautiful place.”Kurt Vonnegut
I do know this- the quicker you learn this, the better your life will be.
Have compassion for each other. Don’t play games. Be honest and authentic, even if it’s hard and scary. Don’t hold back your enthusiasm or joy. Life is just too damn short. Yours, and others. You owe it to yourself and those around you to get clear on what matters and then give that your all.
Give a shit. Forget the rest.
